How we make it

  1. Cut the baguette into pieces and drizzle with olive oil.
  2. Toast it in the oven until nice and toasty while you make the topping.
  3. Cut the tomatoes with a serrated knife.
  4. Grate the garlic on a microplane and mix it into the tomatoes.
  5. Top the toasts, plate, and let the phone eat first.

Pointers from the show

  • Knives not very sharp? A serrated knife gets into tomatoes easily.
  • A microplane saves you chopping garlic finely.
  • It's three ingredients, so fresh, in-season tomatoes make it.
  • Don't stress about perfect cuts. It still tastes good.
  • Watch your fingers.

The story

About this recipe

Made to go with the pear sangria, from Jersey farm tomatoes at their peak. Jaz went to culinary school, and said chasing the perfect dish there almost made her stop loving cooking, so she wasn't fussed about her “ugly cutting.” The plates were Wabi-Sabi: beauty in imperfection. Taylor doesn't love tomatoes, which made it the true test. Verdict: big scrump.
